Postdoctoral Research Scientists

The Data Science Institute (DSI) at Columbia University invites applications for the position of a Data and Cancer Postdoctoral Scientist. The recipient of this two-year research position will be embedded in a Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) cancer tumor board, an interdisciplinary board of clinicians reviewing plans of care for complex cancer tumor cases using state-of-the-art genomic, imaging analysis, and natural language processing where appropriate.

This position is endowed and the holder will be named a Herbert and Florence Irving Cancer Research Data Scientist. A successful candidate will serve as a resident expert in data science whose research interests are specifically focused on advancing and applying data science to understanding cancer. The incumbent will foster collaborations with world-class faculty across Columbia’s schools, centers and institutes in order to guide, plan and execute data science research and technological innovation in cancer-related research.

The Data Science Institute (DSI) at Columbia University is a world-leading institution in interdisciplinary research and education in the emerging field of data science. The Institute’s mission involves advancing the state of the art in data science, while ensuring the responsible use of data for the benefit of society. As DSI enters its second decade, we are seeking an Associate DIrector for Human Resource to support the administration of the Institute.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer at the Data Science Institute, the Associate Director Human Resources will be a strategic partner to Institute leadership and will provide comprehensive oversight and manage the human resource operations for all of the administrative staff at the Institute. Along with the Chief Operating Officer, the Associate Director is the point of contact for all employee relations matters, and must be committed to creating an accessible, supportive environment and superior employee experience. This detailed role includes assisting hiring managers with full lifecycle recruitment, assessing staffing needs to propose suitable talent acquisition strategies and adapting best practices to suit DSI’s evolving needs while maintaining compliance with university policies and state and federal laws.
This role requires a high level of customer service, client relations and clear communications to establish a strong rapport amongst the administrative team, select University Faculty and University partners. The Associate Director must be independently capable of working through fundamental HR transactions as well as providing strategic, proactive advice and counsel to leadership at the Institute.
